The greater Harlem area encompasses several other neighborhoods and extends west and north to 155th Street, east to the East River, and south to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Central Park, and East 96th Street.

Depending on the length of you NYC trip, you might not make it up to Harlem, but if you have time, it’s worth the visit. The kids and I loved visiting Grant’s tomb and Hamilton’s house. We walked and got coffee and ate at Sylvia’s too1

Our favorite spots in the museum of Natural History are the dinosaurs and the Whale room. There are new additions that are worth seeing. To not make it too overwhelming, we pick one or two things we must see and one new thing and move on to another place. The gem room is a magnificent renovation, although I do miss the brown carpeted room from my childhood! La Pecora and Shake Shack are right outside the museum and great with kids. The Leopard is one of our favorite anniversary spots.
Upper East Side

UES bounded by 96th Street to the north, the East River to the east, 59th Street to the south, and Central Park and Fifth Avenue to the west.

So much to see in one neighborhood! If you venture north to far north at 5th Avenue and 105th Street you’ll find the original wrought iron gates to Cornelius & Alice Vanderbilt’s house. Although the house no longer remains, the gates were moved uptown to the entrance of the Conservatory Garden. One of my favorite museums is Museum of The City of New York. The cooper Hewitt itself is a stunning 64-room mansion, and former home of industrial magnate Andrew Carnegie. The Guggenheim is another impressive building built by Frank Lloyd Wright. The Met is a another amazing museum in NYC. The rooftop has amazing panoramic views of NYC and annual exhibits and a wine bar!
Midtown
Sights & Eats
Extends from 34th Street to 59th Street and from 3rd Avenue to 8th Avenue. Midtown is home to some of the city’s most prominent buildings, including the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Hudson Yards, the headquarters of the United Nations, Grand Central Terminal, and Rockefeller Center, as well as several prominent tourist destinations including Broadway, Times Square, and Koreatown.

There is so much to see and do in Midtown! This is a great walking spot from one destination to the next, not many places you need to actually go inside and see here. If you don’t already have Broadway ticckets from Today’s Tixx (one of my favorite’s for last minute tickets) you can stand in line at the TKTS booth in Time’s Square to pick seats for a show on the same night. One of my favorite spots in NYC is Grand Central Station to visit the constellations & the quiet out of the way Campbell Apartment. It’s great for a glass of wine and warm chocolate chip cookies.
